AT A GLANCE

  • Set up your account on the web first. Account creation, password, 2FA, and legal agreements all happen in a browser.
  • Then download the app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  • Sign in with the same credentials. Turn on push notifications when prompted so you don’t miss time-sensitive offers.
  • The dashboard is home base. It surfaces your next appointment, pending requests, incomplete vouchers, today’s schedule, and lifetime stats.

Before you download the app

The mobile app is for interpreters. If you work with multiple agencies on Fluent, you’ll use one account that aggregates everything in one place.

Your Fluent account is created in a web browser — either on your phone or on a computer — before you sign into the mobile app. Here’s the sequence:

  1. You receive an email invite from the agency you’re joining.
  2. Click the link in the invite to open the account setup page in your browser.
  3. Create your password and complete account setup.
  4. Set up two-factor authentication (2FA). You’ll be asked for a phone number, which is required. Fluent will send a 6-digit code by text to verify it.
  5. Sign the legal agreements — including the authorized user terms and acceptable use policy.

Once your account is set up, you’ll see a screen with Download on the App Store and Get it on Google Play buttons. Tap the one for your phone.

If you’re on a desktop browser, you can also find the app by searching for “Fluent” in the App Store or Google Play.

Sign in for the first time

Open the Fluent app and sign in with the email and password you just created. You’ll be asked for your 2FA code by text to complete sign-in.

Turn on push notifications when prompted. Push notifications are how Fluent reaches you when there’s a time-sensitive offer or a check-in reminder. If you decline:

  • You’ll still get notifications by email and in the app (in the bell menu).
  • You won’t get alerts on your phone — no push, no buzz. That means offers and check-in reminders won’t reach you in real time.

For interpreters who take last-minute work, push is the difference between catching an offer and missing it. We recommend leaving it on.

You can change notification permissions later in your phone’s system settings.

A tour of the dashboard

After you sign in, you land on the dashboard — your home base in the app. The widgets reflow based on what’s relevant in the moment, but here’s the general top-to-bottom layout:

Next appointment. Your next assigned appointment. When the appointment is close to its start time, this widget gives you a Mark Arrived button (for in-person) or a check-in action (for video and phone). Once you mark arrived, it becomes the Current appointment widget — letting you start the appointment, track your time, and submit your voucher when you’re done.

Interpreter requests. Any pending offers waiting for your response. Tap a request to see full appointment details and accept or decline. The mobile app surfaces these prominently because real-time offer response is one of the things mobile is built for. See Managing appointments on mobile for the full workflow.

Incomplete vouchers. Appointments that have ended without a voucher submitted. Until you submit, the appointment remains marked as Incomplete. See Tracking time and submitting vouchers.

Today. A quick-view list of all your assigned appointments for today, so you can see the day at a glance without going to the full Appointments screen.

Data widget. A snapshot of your interpreting activity — total appointments, hours, and other stats — with a date range you can switch between This week, This month, This year, Last week, Last month, and Last year.

No upcoming appointments. If you don’t have any assignments, you’ll see this fallback widget instead of the Next appointment / Today widgets.

The other screens

Beyond the dashboard, the mobile app has a few other main screens:

Appointments. Your full list of past and upcoming appointments. Tap any one to open its details. See Managing appointments on mobile.

Notifications. Every notification you’ve received, stacked by appointment so it’s easy to scan the latest activity on each one. For more on what triggers each notification, see How notifications work.

Profile. Your interpreter profile, including lifetime stats (appointments completed, hours interpreted, on-time percentage, years of experience), your interpreter type, location, when you joined Fluent, and the agency you signed up with. You can update some of your profile information from here and view your availability schedule. See User profile.

Mobile or web — which should I use?

The mobile app is built for interpreters working in the field. Two things in particular are better on mobile:

  • Pending requests. The mobile app has a dedicated widget and screen for pending offers, so they’re surfaced front and center.
  • Daily confirmations — the same-day confirmation flow has its own screen on mobile.

You can sign into the Fluent web app with the same credentials, and you can accept or decline appointments there too. But the web experience is mostly optimized for schedulers and administrators, so as an interpreter you’ll find day-to-day work easier on mobile.

Setting your availability

Once you’re signed in, set your weekly availability so agencies can offer you the right appointments. See Setting availability for the full walkthrough.
