Time zones
Understand how Fluent displays appointment times and how to avoid time zone mix-ups.
At a glance
- Display time: Fluent shows times in your device/browser local time zone. [Confirm in product]
- Common mix-ups: Travel, DST changes, or copy/pasted times are the usual culprits.
- Quick fix: Confirm the appointment’s source time zone and the viewer’s device time zone.
Overview
Scheduling tools live and die by time zones. Fluent aims to display appointment times consistently so schedulers and interpreters see the correct time in their own context.
Before you start
- Confirm your device time zone is correct (macOS/Windows/iOS/Android settings).
- Know whether your organization schedules in a single “home” time zone or allows multiple. [Confirm in product]
How it works
Display time zone (viewer)
Fluent may render times using the device’s local time zone (browser/app). This means two people in different time zones can see the “same appointment” in different local times. [Confirm in product]
Stored time zone (appointment) [Confirm in product]
Some systems store an appointment time + an originating time zone. If Fluent does this, it can safely convert for viewers.
Daylight Saving Time (DST)
DST can shift local clocks by an hour. Problems usually happen around:
- Spring forward (missing hour)
- Fall back (repeated hour)
Best practices
- If you schedule across regions, always confirm the location time zone.
- When sending appointment details externally, include the time zone abbreviation (e.g., “10:00 AM MT”). Abbreviations can be ambiguous; consider including the city too.
How to fix “wrong time shown”
- Confirm the appointment location and intended local time.
- Confirm your device time zone is set correctly.
- If Fluent has a workspace time zone setting, confirm it. [Confirm in product]
- If the appointment was created from an integration (calendar import), confirm that source event’s time zone. [Confirm in product]
Troubleshooting
The scheduler and interpreter see different times
- Expected if each sees times in their own local zone.
- If you want everyone to see the same “official” time, the workspace may need a single standardized time zone setting. [Confirm in product]
Times changed after travel
- Your device changed time zones. Fluent is likely converting correctly.
- If you want to view in a fixed time zone (e.g., HQ time), you may need a setting. [Confirm in product]
